What color of rug should I get for a room in black and white?

I want a white and dark purple, possibly black or pink quarter. I do not want a carpet of pink or purple. White will show loads of dirt and black will show all the dirt and dust from light. What would the most enjoyable? I do not want wood or marble floors, since it is only 400 pounds because you move as soon as housing prices rise.
